Okay, so you brush your teeth daily– that’s great. Do you floss, too? You should! Do you use mouthwash? You might as well. Mouthwash makes a good addition to your oral hygiene routine.
Mouthwash Does More Than Freshen Your Breath
While it’s probably best known for freshening breath, mouthwash has other benefits. Since it can reach areas of your mouth that your toothbrush can’t, mouthwash is an additional way to fight both cavities and gum disease. Basically, mouthwash helps control plaque– that thin, bacterial film that tends to build up on teeth. If plaque isn’t removed it turns into tartar. Long story short– mouthwash helps reduce instances of plaque and tartar build-up in the mouth.
Before or After Brushing Your Teeth
Research is inconclusive when it comes to whether you should use mouthwash before or after you brush your teeth. Most people do so after they’ve brushed. Interestingly, it has been said that it’s better to use it some time after you’ve brushed in order to avoid washing away the fluoride from your toothpaste. It’s up to you when you decide to use it.
Germ Killer
Not sure what to use? Listerine is the world’s #1 mouthwash brand and comes highly recommended by many dentists. Listerine’s antiseptic mouthwash helps kill 99.9% of germs that cause bad breath, plaque and gingivitis, and the brand’s fluoride mouthwash helps kill bad breath germs while strengthening teeth and preventing cavities.
Directions
Keep in mind that mouthwash is used as a rinse– it’s not to be swallowed. If you do accidentally swallow mouthwash, you shouldn’t worry; You may experience some queasiness and/or diarrhea, but that’s all. Any sickness from swallowing mouthwash should pass within a couple days.
