Options for Replacing Missing Teeth

Do you have a missing tooth? What can you do about it? Why not get it replaced? Missing teeth can be the result of gum disease, injuries, tooth decay, etc. Missing teeth can affect a person’s smile, their ability to speak and chew and more. What are some options for replacing missing teeth?

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most common way a person can replace missing teeth. They look and feel like “the real thing.” Implants involve replacing a tooth’s old root with metal screws to anchor the false tooth (or teeth) on top. The implant becomes fused to your jawbone over time. A dental crown is usually placed on top to cap it off.

Dental Bridges

Then there’s the implant-supported bridge, which is a way to replace several missing teeth in a row. Teeth at the two ends of the “bridge of teeth” are secured in place using implants. Does this look natural? Surprisingly, yes! You could also opt for a tooth-supported bridge, whereas your existing teeth are used to support the placement of the bridge. No surgery is needed for this type of bridge.

Partial Dentures

How about removable partial dentures? This is a simple solution to missing teeth. A partial replaces a few missing teeth. It clasps into place and can be removed to be cleaned as well as when you want to go to sleep. A variation on this is the flipper, which is a temporary partial denture that can flip in and out of its position. It doesn’t use metal clasps and is not dependent on any surrounding teeth.
