What Happens When You Don’t Floss?

A lot of parents teach their kids to brush twice a day– morning and night. But do they teach their kids to floss? Not so much. And adults don’t floss like they should… That said, if you’re the kind of person who cares about your dental health, you floss and you realize it’s just as important as brushing your teeth.

The Problems You Face From Not Flossing

So what happens when you don’t floss regularly? All sorts of things could happen, and one of the main things people who don’t floss deal with is the development of gum disease. That’s because they don’t properly get rid of plaque building up between their teeth and gums. This plaque causes gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. When your gums become red, swollen, irritated and/or bleed easily, you’ve got problems! Bacteria in plaque can bother not only your gums and teeth but also the bone that supports your teeth and gum tissue. Eventually, if you don’t floss and gum disease gets really bad, your teeth could fall out or need to be extracted by the dentist!

What about bad breath? Perhaps your breath stinks because old food particles are stuck up in between your teeth and bacteria are “going to town on them.”

Back to the gums: they can recede whereas your gums pull away from your teeth and expose the root of your tooth, allowing disease-causing bacteria into this “pocket.” Again, it’s not something you want to happen, so please… floss.

You might want to do some research to discover that if you don’t floss, it could lead to dementia, diabetes, kidney disease, ulcers, etc. You’ve got to keep your mouth healthy if you want to keep your overall body healthy.
