How to Keep Your Teeth White

Most people want white teeth. They don’t want stained or yellow teeth. So how can you keep your teeth white? There are several things you can do.

Dental Maintenance

For starters, take good care of your teeth, which means practicing good oral hygiene. This means brushing and flossing your teeth daily, using mouthwash (like Listerine) and seeing a dentist at least twice a year for cleanings and check-ups. When you brush, don’t brush too hard.

Proper Diet

Next, avoid certain foods and drinks that will stain your teeth. For instance, if you drink dark-colored soda (like Pepsi, Coke or Dr. Pepper) daily, that’s not ideal. You could switch to a clear soda (like Sprite/Starry) instead. Also, some other things that stain the teeth include red wine and berries. You don’t have to give these things up– but it will help if you brush your teeth right after you eat or drink them so they don’t stain your teeth. If a brush isn’t available, at least rinse your teeth with some water. Note: you can also use a straw to drink certain drinks so the liquid goes to the back of the mouth and avoids the teeth.

Dental Products

Thirdly, some people choose to use a whitening toothpaste. You could do that. Ideally, ask your dentist what they recommend. There are also some goods that help naturally whiten your teeth, like crunchy fruits and veggies– apples, carrots and celery are smart (and healthy) choices.
