Root Canal?
If you have a tooth that is infected or decaying, you might need a root canal. This procedure helps save a tooth that would otherwise die and need to be removed all together. A root canal involves the dentist removing the harmful things inside the tooth and replacing it with medicated dental materials that allow the tooth to restore its full function.
Thankfully, root canal treatments are highly successful. If you get a root canal, expect to have two appointments at Genesee Dental.
Though people are often very scared of the term “root canal,” it’s actually a common procedure and not as bad as people think it is. You might need a root canal if you have severe toothache pain that doesn’t go away, decay of the tooth, an abscess on your gums, and/or sensitivity to hot and cold. These may be signs that decay has reached your tooth pulp, which is the living tissue inside the tooth. Sometimes infections or abscesses develop inside a tooth or at the root tip. Alternatively, perhaps trauma or injury has impacted a particular tooth. Even with all this said, sometimes there are no symptoms present and you might still need a root canal– your dentist will be able to offer his or her expert opinion on this matter.
